Because MathFactLab is dedicated to helping students develop math fact fluency, this blog will mostly be dedicated to the the teaching of math facts. But as a fifth-grade math teacher, I also have much more content to cover than just math facts, so I thought I would use this platform to share some of the resources I have developed over the years.
At my school, we start fifth grade math each year with our place-value unit during which students should develop comfort with decimal place values down to the thousandths. This is a little game I've developed to help them build that place-value fluency while also reinforcing some math vocabulary.
You'll see when you click the pdf link below that I've included 3 versions: one with five categories, one with seven and one with nine. I've also included a place-value chart designed to put dice on. This chart is already on the page for the five and seven-category version, but there isn't sufficient room on the page for it on the nine-category version.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NBT.A.1Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
